Join us in celebrating the annual tree planting in The John Lewis Flowering Forest! Freedom Park Conservancy is pleased to join Trees Atlanta in this multi-year living tree tribute to the legendary Congressman John Lewis.
Occurring on Saturday, February 22nd, this annual community volunteer event pays homage to Atlanta’s late civil rights leader through the planting of blooming trees along the John Lewis Parkway in Freedom Park.
Volunteers who wish to participate in the tree planting are required to register in advance.
In 2021, Trees Atlanta, the Freedom Park Conservancy and The National Center for Civil and Human Rights joined together to honor the late civil rights leader by planting 300 flowering trees. The trees planted bloom in February each year as a timely celebration of Lewis’s birthday on February 21. Additional trees are added each year in February in order to create a stunning 1.5-mile landmark corridor of blooming trees through Freedom Park, linking John Lewis Plaza, The Carter Center and The King Center.
