Freedom Park Turns 25

We invite you to join the 25th Birthday Celebration of Freedom Park by becoming an official Friend of the Park. Freedom Park was born on September 28, 1998, when the 99-year Lease between the City of Atlanta and the Georgia Department of Transportation was signed. What a gift to the more than 34,250 people who live within a ten-minute walk to Freedom Park.

Freedom Park is described as a linear park because the land it occupies was originally acquired and cleared with a plan to build a highway system. Today, Freedom Park provides connectivity for bicyclists and pedestrians among many intown neighborhoods and beyond. The Park also provides green space for recreation, respite, and relaxation. And it is an Art Park with both permanent and temporary art installations. In 2023, the City of Atlanta adopted the Freedom Park Master Plan developed by the Freedom Park Conservancy to guide strategic maintenance and infrastructure needs.

Our immediate goal is to address the primary request for our park to be better maintained. To that end, we have launched a fundraising campaign focused on maintaining the park. We are asking you to become a Friend of Freedom Park by making a donation to purchase new additional trash cans for our park. Our Matching Fund Campaign means every donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $60,000. We offer a special shout-out to Park Pride for the Matching Grant. In partnership with Park Pride, we will beautify our park for all.
