FPC Receives Grant from Park Pride

Atlanta, GA – March 6, 2024 – The Freedom Park Conservancy is pleased to be the recipient of a $60,000 matching grant from Park Pride to reduce litter in Freedom Park through the installation of 28 new trash receptacles, which will augment the park’s existing 52 receptacles. This project is in response to community input that identified park litter as one of the major concerns of Freedom Park’s visitors. Freedom Park’s recent Master Plan outlined park maintenance as a primary need, and this project provides immediate improvements, while advancing that goal overall. The installation will be completed in July 2024.
Latosha Tucker, City of Atlanta Parks Department, participated in a site visit of the entire park to assess where new trash receptacles could/should be sited and advised on the specific factors determining their location, such as the ability of City Parks Staff to easily and safely access the receptacles. The trash receptacle placement will be prioritized near Freedom Park gateways, benches, and along the Park’s long stretches of pathways. The trash receptacles provide the infrastructure necessary to keep this greenspace clean and beautiful for all users, thus maintaining Freedom Park as one of Atlanta’s premiere greenspaces.

Freedom Park Conservancy identified a critical need in the park to improve the visitor experience and we are happy to support those efforts through this grant.

Park Pride engages more than 100 Friends of the Park groups across the City of Atlanta, unincorporated DeKalb County, and Brookhaven. Park Pride’s Grantmaking Program awards funding to community groups seeking to revitalize their neighborhood greenspaces. It was established with support from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation and The Home Depot Foundation, with additional funders including Georgia Power, the City of Atlanta, and others through the Parks for All Campaign.
